Obituary for David Wayne (Dayne) Becken

David Wayne (Dayne) Becken, 39, passed away Tuesday, April 16th, 2019, at his home in Leonard, Texas. He was born on July 28, 1979 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to David Wayne Becken and Pamela Kim (Lawrence) Becken.

The family moved back to Portland, OR in 1981, where Dayne spent his childhood and where his oldest son, Joshua Sampson, was born in 1996. In 2001, Dayne moved to Indianapolis, IN. where his second son, Gabriel Becken, was born in September of 2003.

Growing up, Dayne enjoyed spending summers on the farms and gardening with his grandparents and great-grandparents. He was a mischievous boy who’s belly laugh lit up a room. Dayne was always eager to make people laugh along with him. He and his mom had a special song they would sing to one another every night before bed and he loved tagging along on adventures with his dad, who taught him to play pool like a pro. He loved family camping trips and visits to the Oregon Coast along with golfing, dog training, skateboarding and his paper route where he had many customers who dearly loved him. He also enjoyed vacations to Disneyland and to Hawaii, Alaska, and Virginia where he would visit his Grandma Hurst.

Dayne married Christine Elizabeth Slinger on April 17, 2005 in Reno, Nevada. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue School of Engineering in 2010, graduating summa cum laude.

In 2015, Dayne moved to Texas with his wife and started Beckens’ Beginnings, a fiber ranch, where he raised Angora goats, Huacaya alpacas, Shetland sheep, and Angora rabbits. He was an active member of the Colored Angora Goat Breeders Association, and enjoyed showing his prize goats at the Texas State fair. He also enjoyed his job and colleagues, as a senior commercial estimator at Central Roofing in Anna, Texas.

In addition to managing a fiber ranch, Dayne was an avid beekeeper, with a growing apiary and honey business. In his free time, Dayne enjoyed golf, playing pool and hanging out with family and friends.

Dayne is survived by his wife: Christine Becken, of Leonard, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law: Joshua (23) and Hillary Sampson, of Albuquerque, New Mexico plus Josh’s mother, Crystal Kauffman of Oregon City, Oregon; his son: Gabriel Becken (15) of Leonard, Texas; and Gabe’s mother, Jenny Erickson of Washougal, Washington, his father and step-mother: David and Cheryl Becken of Keizer, Oregon; his mother and step-father: Pamela and Jary Martinson of Camas, Washington; his sister: Wendy Dragoon of Portland, Oregon.
